Musings and mind leaks... Typewriter

Chapter 1

Writing a play? No problem. Starting a theatre company? Easy-peasy. Giving birth? No idea. I have no children. Writing and publishing a first novel?...hang on, nobody told me it would be like proper work!! So, finally, my first 'grown-up' novel is finished. It only took about four years (what do you mean, 'that's a long time?). Then, after much soul-searching, list-making and piggy bank breaking, being ignored by two agents and one of the few publishers that still accepts unsolicited manuscripts - and I mean ignored. Not rejected, just ignored - I decide to opt for self-publishing. Proper self-publishing, not just photocopying a lot of pages and drawing a cover with coloured Sharpies. My weapon of choice is Matador, mostly because some magazines told me they were good. The process has begun, copy editing and proof-reading is complete, a cover is designed by my good friend Andrea Kennard (daughter of Michael Kennard who designed the original cover of 1984 by George Orwell, no less) and now I sit and wait for the anticipated first copy to be in my sweaty little palm. Here, in this trifling blog, while the climate is changing and the world is going to hell in a hand cart, I shall document the journey of it all until we reach the publication date: 15th March 2018. At that point, I will be responsible for releasing a little more paper into the world. I'll let you know how I get on. Wish me luck!
